Dr. Ricardo Muñoz is a depression prevention and treatment researcher, a Professor Emeritus at UCSF, and a Distinguished Professor of Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University. His research focuses on the development of prevention and treatment interventions for depression and applications of these methods to help people stop smoking. He founded the UCSF/SFGH Latino Mental Health Research Program in 1992. (Research Website)

Dr. Muñoz and the PRO-Health Research Program have collaborated on the Mothers & Babies Project / Proyecto Mamás y Bebés, which was a seminal study testing whether a cognitive-behavioral intervention reduced risk for maternal depression and improved maternal and child functioning in high-risk, low-income, English and Spanish-speaking pregnant women.
