Dr. Christine Dunkel Schetter is a Professor of Psychology and directs the Health Psychology training program at UCLA. Her primary program of research is on stress processes in pregnancy. In this work, Dunkel Schetter and collaborators examine various aspects of prenatal maternal stress including stress exposures, emotional responses, and appraisals of stress and their effects on preterm birth and low birth weight. Dr. Dunkel Schetter and the PRO-Health Research Program have collaborated on a four-year, randomized clinical trial testing the efficacy of a prenatal stress management program on regulating biomarkers of stress named SMART Moms / Mamás LÍSTAS.
